Position Overview
Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC 6E) represents the Mount Vernon Triangle, NoMa, Northwest One, Sursum Corda, Judiciary Square, and Downtown East neighborhoods.

ANC 6E is seeking an organized and efficient Executive Administrative Assistant (this is a consultant role with no offered benefits) to support the Commission’s day-to-day operations. This role is essential to keeping the Commission running efficiently and transparently. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, flexible, and punctual skilled writer and communicator who is comfortable with navigating government processes.

Key Responsibilities

Administrative

  • Maintain and organize Commission records, resolutions, filings, and official documents in compliance with DC government requirements
  • Prepare and distribute agendas and supporting materials for executive, monthly, and special meetings
  • Coordinate logistics for public meetings, including virtual platform or in-person meeting setup, and public notice posting
  • Track and manage Commission finances, including budget tracking, expenditure, and required financial reporting to the Office of Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (OANC)

Communications

  • Manage emails and communications on behalf of the Commission
  • Maintain the Commission’s mailing/newsletter list, website content, and social media presence
  • Provide support with drafting and sending out ANC 6E monthly newsletter

Meeting Support

  • Draft and post public meeting notices in compliance with DC’s Open Meetings Act
  • Prepare resolution templates and track their status from introduction through vote

Policy

  • Assist with research and preparation of Commission positions on pending legislation or agency actions as needed

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Interest in administrative, office management, and government support
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Availability to attend monthly evening Commission meetings and occasional special meetings

Preferred

  • Familiarity with DC government structure, ANC processes, or civic/community organizations
  • Experience with Zoom or hybrid meeting platforms
  • Experience with budget tracking or basic bookkeeping
  • Live in or familiarity with the neighborhoods and work of ANC 6E

Working Conditions

This is a primarily remote position with required in-person/virtual attendance at monthly ANC 6E public meetings, typically held in the evenings (at 6:30 pm). Occasional daytime meetings or in-person coordination may be required. While DC residency is not a requirement, applicants must be able to commute to DC for in-person meetings.

The position involves working with elected volunteers, DC government agencies, community organizations, business improvement districts (including the NoMa BID and Mount Vernon Triangle CID), and engaged neighborhood residents.

While hours will vary per week, the role is expected to spend up to 7 hours per week on completing assigned tasks.

Compensation: monthly stipend of $700-1000, depending on working hours.
